Volunteers?

Author: KodaFit

Just a quick post tonight…  I’ve spent the last couple of weekends working on an idea for a side business, but I’ve found when you get close to a project, it’s hard to be objective, and a little outside help is always handy to have.

So…

I need a couple of volunteers, preferably people with a good eye for detail, and with an interest in triathlons, running and/or other endurance sports.

I promise you, that there is something in it for you, and that something is free!

So, if you’re interested in helping me out, just let me know in the comments below, and I’ll get hold of you later this week!

Free Shoes!!

OK Readers, if there was any doubt in your minds how much I appreciate you reading and following this blog, then please allow me to remove that doubt…

Steve of Steve in a Speedo. Gross?! blogging fame is hosting a competition on his website.  I’m posting this here, so I can get an additional entry into the drawing.  The thing is though, that by promoting it here, he will likely get more entries, and thus decrease my odds of winning.

So…  Yes, I’m increasing my odds of winning by posting this, but at the same time, I’m decreasing those odd by telling you about it.

However you want to look at it though, I think the key thing here is… Get to his blog before next Saturday, read the details on how to get into the drawing and get yourself entered.

You can ready his blog here, or click here to link directly to the post about the Free Shoes.

Oh - and if you want to tell him that you linked over there through The Kodafit Blog, I would be most appreciative as well!!

Update!

I promised someone I’d get a post or two done today.  The day is almost over, and I don’t want to do an injustice to the couple of idea’s I’ve been thinking about, so let me give you a summary and then hopefully, I can fill in the details in the coming days…

  1.  I had my first race of the season 2 weeks ago.  It was an indoor sprint tri.  Good experience, fun event, and I believe they’ll have a video and the results posted really soon.  If you want to see what it was, check out the home page video at elevateutah.com.
  2. I’m on a wellness council at work.  We did a Biggest Loser contest last year which was great to be a part of.  The only problem was tracking stats.  This year, I’m writing an application to manage it all online.  I’m pretty excited.  It should be ready for initial testing this weekend, if any of you want to be beta testers, just let me know (You don’t even have to be honest about your weight ;-) ).
  3. Went to an awesome swim clinic on Saturday.  Figured since my head position and body position are great, I could get some tips on my stroke.  The biggest lesson I learned is that what you think and reality are often not the same.  My stroke is pretty good actually, but my head and body positioning could use some work - Aha!!  More to come on that!
  4. I usually reserve my religious and political views for elsewhere on the web under a different name.  They tend to annoy people - actually anyone who follows me on FaceBook may have seen some of that last year!  But that aside, I’ve come to see there is a spiritual side to running.  Don’t worry, I’m not going to get all preachy and hallelujah like - it’s not that kind of spiritual - but it is something I wanted to share.

There may be more stuff too, especially since my training really took off over the past 2 weeks and I’m excited for the coming season.

Feel free to vote on which topic you would prefer to hear about first, if you care, and hopefully you’ll hear from me soon.

Also I just entered a contest for some free socks over at Speedo Steve’s blog (He’s not sponsored by Speedo, but I think he should be!)  Anyway, that’s beside the point.  The contest was entitled Tales of a Virgin Athlete. You can read more about it on his blog - here. You could probably also leave comments saying that you really think my entry should be considered!!

I’ll probably post my tale of being a virgin athlete this weekend as well!

Please don’t pants me!

I’ve mentioned the new toy I got for Christmas - a wee counter to wear when I swim.  I’m about to write a review on it, which I’m hoping to submit to EveryMan Tri, but I wanted to share a related story, which as you may gather from the title might not be necessarily appropriate for a larger audience!

So I went to the pool today.  It’s the day I telecommute for my job, and so if I leave here as soon as I can for lunch and fly over to the pool, I can usually get a little more than 30 minutes of good hard swimming in.

Today I was a little slow getting going, and so I left in a bit of a hurry.  Arrived at the pool a little late, and tried to sign in. They just got a new bar code system though, and so the cashier had to set up my account and assign a bar code for me…  My pass expires next Friday and I may be switching to another pool, so I was a little annoyed anyway, and running a couple of minutes late.

I usually wear my swimsuit under my clothes to save time at the pool.  Flew into the change rooms, got my clothes off, grabbed my goggles, towel and headed out to the pool.  Found a spot for my bag, pulled out my watch and my sport counter and headed over to find a line.  Found a line in the deep section, jumped in, adjusted my goggles, started my watch and the counter and set off.

The thing I like best about the counter is I don’t have to remember what lap I’m on.  If I’m only doing 200 yds at a time this isn’t a problem, but when you have to do 30+ laps, I often loose count.  With the counter I get to relax and focus on my form and style.  I get to think about stuff too.  Many a programming problem has been solved while I’m out running or biking, and now I can do it swimming.

It was about lap 3 that I was feeling nice and relaxed and it was at that exact moment that I realized…

I forgot to pack underwear…  Noooooooooooooo!

It was a great swim.  I got a mile in, averaged about 1 minute for each 50 yds and as a bonus the showers were warm.  That said however, I didn’t have underwear and I wasn’t about to wear a wet suit out into the frigid air.

Yes folks, I went commando.  In the words of Kramer…  I was out there, and looovin’ every minute of it!

Shameless Begging…

I make no excuses for this post. It’s simply the situation of me groveling at your feet begging for your vote.

I’m not making any grand promises, only that I’ll try and improve next year.

I don’t have much of an energy policy or anything like that and I’m not even much to look at, but….
In the July Competition for the BFit BDay prize, I would really, really, really like to win…

So if you feel inclined, please visit the BFit BDay website and cast your vote for me - Mike “KodaFit” Mackrory

If you haven’t joined already, I’d highly recommend both the site and the challenge.

Thanks!

Mike a.k.a. KodaFit.

PS - If you would like to read about my day completing the challenge, you can read about it here.
